Risso's salmon sparrow ( Arctozenus risso ) is a deep-sea fish from the barracudina family (Paralepididae). It is the only species in the genus Arctozenus . The species lives around the world between 71 ° north and 55 ° south latitude, probably in all oceans from the water surface to depths of 2,200 meters and also reaches the deep northern North Sea .

Risso's salmon sparrow has an elongated body that can reach a length of 25 to 30 centimeters. The short dorsal fin sits behind the middle of the body and is supported by 8 to 13, the anal fin by 28 to 34 fin rays. The pelvic fins start a little behind the dorsal fin. A small adipose fin is present. The number of eddies is 72 to 86, that of the Branchiostegal rays is eight. Risso's salmon sparrow is brightly silver in color.
Way of life
Risso's salmon sparrow lives alone or in small schools from the surface of the water to a depth of 2200 meters, mostly between 200 and 1000 meters. It feeds on small fish and shrimp. The fish migrate to tropical and subtropical seas to reproduce. They spawn over continental slopes . The larvae are planktonic.
