Elisabeth Hermine called Rita Bardenheuer born. Hoffmeister (born June 5, 1877 in Bremen , † February 15, 1943 in Bremen) was a German educator and politician ( SPD ) in Bremen.

biography

Bardenheuer was the daughter of foreman Hinrich Hoffmeister from Bremen Neustadt . She attended the secondary girls 'school and the teachers ' seminar run by Johann August Martin Janson and Ida Janson . In Bergedorf she taught as a teacher. In 1900 she married the businessman Gustav Bardenheuer; they had three children. After she gave up her job in 1904, she became politically active. She became a member of the Bremen branch of the Association for Women's Suffrage and she became friends with the social politician Auguste Kirchhoff . She justified her membership as follows: " This right to vote must appear to be the only possible and only logical to a woman who strives for the improvement of the legal situation of her gender, not of women of a certain social class ". She spoke out against the corporate suffrage in Bremen.

In 1909 she was a co-founder of the Bremen branch of the federal government for maternity protection and sexual reform . During the First World War , she was a member of the Central Aid Committee of the Red Cross .

In early 1919 she became a member of the SPD (MSPD). She was appointed to the constituent assembly of Bremen on March 9, 1920 and was represented in the Bremen citizenship from 1920 to 1921 . In 1919 she became a member of the International Women's League for Peace and Freedom in Bremen and was second chairwoman of the association until 1925. Disputes in the SPD citizenship faction and the pressure that was exerted on her husband as a self-employed person caused her to leave the citizenship and in 1922 the SPD. Bardenheuer was important in the Bremen women's movement .

Honors

The Rita-Bardenheuer-Strasse in Bremen- Schwachhausen was named after her.
