Knight Roland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ritter Roland is a booklet series of which 30 episodes were published by Bastei-Verlag between 1982 and 1983 .

Authors

The authors of the series came from different fields. While many wrote primarily in the horror and crime scene, there were also authors whose main creative field was sea adventures, science fiction , westerns or homeland novels .

The following authors were involved in detail: Ekkehard Reinke under real names, Hans Peter Weißfeld as Götz Altenburg , Hans Wolf Sommer as Gunther Herbst , Joachim Honnef under real names and Rainer Delfs as Florian Philipp .

action

The series is about Roland, a young knight at the court of King Arthur. The responsible editor was Hans-Ulrich Steffan.

The hero of the series is said to have 50 adventures to be included in the round table. Because of the end of the series, he didn't succeed. Novels that have already been written but have not been published have been published together with a few exposés in a special volume of the Ersten Deutschen Fantasyclub e. V. reprinted a few years later.

The world largely corresponded to the Arthurian legend , but was moved to the High Middle Ages . The king was renamed Arthus, but continued to reside in Camelot - which, however, was here on the Lower Rhine , northwest of Xanten . In this way the Roland saga was also woven in. If Roland was the nephew and paladin of Charlemagne there, only the time and place was taken over and linked to the Arthurian legend.

The subject was quite mixed. Roland had to fight against other knights as well as against Vikings and gangs of thieves. But also classic figures of fantasy like dragons and dwarfs , especially Laurin, were among his opponents. Amorous adventures were not neglected either, as he is always ready to help a maiden in need - and to spend the night with her.
