List of rose varieties

Ritter von Barmstede is a climbing rose from the house of W. Kordes' sons , named in honor of the Ritter von Barmstede , the founders of the town of Barmstedt and the monastery of Uetersen , from which today's rose town of Uetersen arose. This rose has since been forgotten and is therefore one of the lesser-known roses. It is now rarely offered in stores. Wilhelm Kordes bred them from the 'Kordesii' variety and an unnamed polyanthate.

It is an abundantly blooming, often remounting climbing rose, with a strongly upright and broad bushy growth. With good conditions and care, it can reach a width of 2.5 meters and a height of three to four meters. The flower color ranges from deep pink to carmine red with a white eye. The up to 7 cm large, aromatic, fragrant flowers are slightly double. They have strongly corrugated petals with a lighter back and are densely packed in clusters of 5 to 15. The rose leaves are predominantly medium to dark green, glossy and egg-shaped, with finely serrated edges. It prefers partial shade as a location.

'Ritter von Barmstede' is frost hardy to −29 ° C ( USDA zone 5 ). This strain is very susceptible to a wide variety of diseases and pests, so it needs regular care and is more suitable for the rose connoisseur.
