The Rittmannshagener See is a lake in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The largest (northern) part is in the Faulenrost municipal area , near the place that gives it its name. The smaller southern part, also called Lanser See , is located in the municipality of Peenehagen . The lake was created in a glacial channel which, during the Pomeranian stage of the Vistula Ice Age, was given its present form by melt water below the ice. Larger parts of the lake shore are reed and mostly swampy. The Ostpeene flows into the lake in the southeast and leaves it again in the north. The forest area Faulenroster Holz lies on the east bank .
