The building at Ritterstraße 11 in Esslingen am Neckar is a residential and commercial building from the late 19th century.

History and description

The building was built in 1898/99 according to plans by Hermann Falch as a bank and residential building and was initially used by Esslinger Actien-Bank, which was founded in 1889 and taken over by Stahl & Federer in 1910. The business premises were on the ground floor, which is equipped with large arched windows. An apartment for the bank manager was on the first floor. The house now serves as the administrative headquarters of the Württemberg State Theater .

The house stands out from its neo-baroque surroundings thanks to its orientation towards Renaissance and late Gothic architectural styles . It has on the facade to Ritterstraße a übergiebelten agent projections and at the corner of Küferstraße an ornate Eck oriel from stone . Apart from the Esslingen city coat of arms, emblems of trade and industry serve as building decorations. While the vault, the windows and the staircase have been preserved in their original condition from the time of construction, doors and stucco ceilings in the expressionist style bear witness to a renovation that took place in 1921.
