The River Lavant is a seasonal (often summer-dry) stream in the South Downs of West Sussex . It has its source in a pond in East Dean . From there it flows through Singleton , West Dean , Binderton and Lavant to Chichester . Its old mouth was at Pagham , but it was diverted in Roman times to reinforce the fortification of the city. Its current mouth is in the port of Chichester.
