Rosswald
Rosswald (Valaisian German: Roswaldt ) is a village in the municipality of Termen in the Brig district in the canton of Valais in Switzerland . Located at 1,800 meters on the edge of the Simplon , the Rosswald is primarily geared towards winter tourism. The Rosswald can be reached by cable car (LRR) or road in summer, but only by cable car in winter, which has the valley station in Ried-Brig at around 1,030 meters.
history
The first documents that report on the Rosswald region date from the end of the 19th century. In the past, the Rosswald was only used to use the pastures and the Alps. The steeply sloping sides to the Gantertal and Ried-Brig were used intensively by the timber industry. Some ski pioneers, including Karl Dellberg , discovered the Rosswald as a ski area in the middle of the 20th century. With the advent of tourism, the cable car was built in 1953 and the first slopes prepared. In the 80s, the cable car was renovated and the ski area expanded up to 2,600 meters. Today, numerous chalets and a modern ski area offer tourists vacation opportunities in a car-free zone.
geography
The Rosswald is located on a high plateau north of the Monte Leone massif. The subsoil is primarily slate , as found in many regions south-east of the district capital, Brig . Therefore the soil is not very stable and debris flows occur again and again on the southern slope. The highest mountain in the region is the 'Grosse Huwetz' at 2923 meters above sea level.
