Roach ( Japaneseロ ー チ, rōchi ) is a four-piece J-rock band from Okinawa , Japan . Their music consists of rock and metal elements mixed with traditional Japanese singing and melodies. In their texts they mix Japanese and English passages, whereby the English mostly merge into the screamo typical screaming song.

history

Roach was founded in 2003 as a five-piece band consisting of singer Ta-ma , guitarists kubocchi and Masashi (left the band in 2008), as well as bassist Katsuya and drummer Misaki (also left the band in 2008).

Unlike many other Japanese bands, Roach doesn't stand out with its unusual visual kei styling. They keep themselves fashionable rather inconspicuous and let the music speak for itself.

In the first few years of their career they played many concerts as opening act for larger acts and appeared on some Japanese sampler albums.

2006 Roach appeared as the opening act for MUCC in concerts in Okinawa and Osaka. Roach signed a record deal with the same label, Danger Crue Records, and played at the Danger Crue Tenka V Christmas event at the end of the year alongside bands like Creature Creature , SID and La Vie En Rose . In the spring of 2007 Roach played at Metal / Shock Rock Day and the Independence-D Convention , where well-known Japanese bands such as Plastic Tree and Merry performed.

Atypical for Japanese bands, Roach's first release was a full album called MIND OF THE SUN , which was released in April 2007. This was followed by the first Japan-wide tour under the name BEGINNING OF THE SUN . A little later, in November 2007, the first single SCARLET was released , the title track of which is characterized by an unusually happy, almost poppy sound.

In contrast, 2008 was not very productive for the young band. In December Misaki left the band due to musical differences, and a little later Masashi too . The reasons for his exit are unknown. In 2009 Dai-chan joined the band as the new drummer. Soon after, Roach started touring again and writing new songs.

In 2010 the band went to Austin (Texas) for a month , where they recorded their single FOR YOU, I WILL . The mini-album BREED OF THE SUN was released on February 2, 2011 . On May 28, the song Mimi wo sumaseba (耳 を 澄 ま せ ば), which was released in 2010 on the single FOR YOU, I WILL , but not on BREED OF THE SUN , appeared on the benefit album A Wish To End The Tragedy , the proceeds of which after production costs on the occasion of the Tōhoku 2011 earthquake donated to the Japan Red Cross.
