Robbe & Berking Sterling Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Robbe & Berking Sterling Cup is a regatta series that has been organized every year in late summer since 1995 by the Robbe & Berking Group and the Flensburg Sailing Club (FSC) for classic yachts. The main focus of the sailing classes are the meter classes 12mR, 8mR, 6mR and 5.5mR. The largest participation of yachts in the meter class so far took place in 2013 with 60 yachts and 400 sailors.

But also the dragon class and archipelago cruisers sail their championships as part of the Sterling Cup. The main attraction are the races of the 12mR yachts, which all gather in the club harbor of the FSC in Glücksburg-Quellental . This historic sailing class has held its world, European and German championships as part of the regattas of the Sterling Cup.

The individual races take place on the Flensburg Fjord between the Ochseninseln and Schausende , so that the spectators can watch the sailing competitions well from the shore.

In the last two years, a special feeder race has been introduced for the 12mR class from the Danish Dyvig Bay through the Alsensund via Sonderburg and further on the Flensburg Fjord to Glücksburg .

An extensive cultural program on land rounds off the Sterling Cup.
