Robert A. LeVine

Robert Alan LeVine (born March 27, 1932 in New York City ) is an American educational scientist, anthropologist and social psychologist .

Live and act

He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University. received his doctorate and taught there until his retirement as Roy E. Larsen Professor of Education and Human Development at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

He conducted field research with the Bantu ethnic group of the Gusii ( Kisii (people) ) in Kenya (1975), in Nigeria, Mexico, Japan, as well as in New Guinea, Tibet or Nepal. His classic works today include Nyansongo and Culture, Behavior and Personality . His research interests include upbringing and youth development and the impact of reading skills and education on maternal behavior in various cultural contexts. He conducts personal ethnography and studies the relationship between psychoanalysis and anthropology.

From 1980 to 1983 he was chairman of the Social Science Research Council . He has also been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1989 .

LeVine has worked on around twelve books to date and has written over a hundred specialist articles.

Awards

In 1997 he was honored by the Society for Psychological Anthropology, and in 2001 by the American Educational Research Association . In 2013 Robert LeVine was awarded the Eleanor Maccoby Book Award in Developmental Psychology .
