Robert Anderson (police officer)

Sir Robert Anderson (born May 29, 1841 in Dublin , † November 15, 1918 in London ) worked from 1888 to 1901 in a leading position ( Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Police and Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department ) at Scotland Yard . On the occasion of his retirement from service, he was knighted as Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in 1901 .

Anderson was also a lay theologian and published numerous books on biblical interpretation . He belonged to the "open brothers" .

Historical calculations

On the basis of Dan 9.25f. ELB Robert Anderson calculated the date of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem . According to the prophet Daniel , 69 weeks of years (weeks of 7 years each = 483 years) should elapse from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to the appearance of the Messiah as prince . Anderson used the services of the Royal Greenwich Observatory in 1895 to determine the first Nisan in the 20th year of King Artaxerxes (Ahasuerus) - the date on which the decree to rebuild Jerusalem was issued ( Neh 2 : 1–8  ELB ) to let. His calculations showed March 14, 445 BC. Chr.

Based on the Jewish lunar calendar , which has 30 days per month, Anderson came up with a period of 173,880 days (30 days × 12 months × 483 years). This period ended on Nisan 10 (April 6), AD 32. According to Anderson, this is Palm Sunday when Jesus entered Jerusalem as King, five days before he was crucified.
