Robert "Bob" Arthur (born June 18, 1925 in Aberdeen , Washington as Robert Paul Arthaud ; † October 1, 2008 , ibid) was an American actor .

life and career

After serving in the United States Navy , Robert Arthur made his film debut in 1945 in An Enterprising Woman by Michael Curtiz . He then developed into a busy performer of mostly serious, often naive adolescents or young adults. He made a major appearance in 1948 in the commercially successful horse film Green Grass of Wyoming on the side of Peggy Cummins and Charles Coburn , Arthur later considered this role to be his breakthrough. In the following year he played in Henry King's Oscar-winning war film The Commander, the clerk McIllhenny , who acts as the comic relief of the film. In 1951, he played one of his best-known roles as the idealistic newspaper photographer Herbie Cook in Billy Wilder's film noir Reporter of Satan , which is the sidekick to the main character played by Kirk Douglas . Arthur took on other roles, among others, in Liebesrausch auf Capri (1950) alongside Joan Fontaine and Joseph Cotten and in The Heir apparent (1953) alongside Jean Simmons and Stewart Granger .

In addition to acting, Arthur also worked as a radio announcer and disc jockey. From the mid-1950s, the role offers for Robert Arthur decreased significantly, also because he was probably too old for his boyish roles. He largely withdrew from acting in the 1960s and only appeared occasionally in front of the camera, most recently as a pastor in an episode of the sitcom Full House in 1991 . Instead, his main occupation was an insurance salesman. He was also a gay activist for the rights of homosexual seniors and was a member of the Log Cabin Republicans .

Robert Arthur died of heart failure on October 1, 2008 in the city of Aberdeen , Washington , at the age of 83.
