Peggy Cummins

Peggy Cummins (born December 18, 1925 in Prestatyn , Denbighshire , Wales ; † December 29, 2017 in London ; born Augusta Margaret Diane Fuller ) was a British actress in film and television who was also active in Hollywood at times.

life and career

Peggy Cummins was born in Prestatyn, Wales, in 1925 to Irish parents. Her mother was the actress Margaret Cummins (1889–1973). For the first few years she lived mostly in Dublin and later grew up in London . In 1940 she made her film debut in the British production Dr. O'Dowd directed by Herbert Mason. Her first major film was English Without Tears from 1944, starring Michael Wilding and Lilli Palmer , directed by Harold French .

In 1945 Peggy Cummins was brought to Hollywood by Darryl F. Zanuck , head of 20th Century Fox . In the following years she made several films in the USA ; the best known of these is the film noir Dangerous Passion , in which she played a juvenile criminal at the side of John Dall . In 1950 she returned to England to get married and return to work in the British film business. In 1954 she played in the comedy Love Lottery by Charles Crichton at the side of David Niven , in 1957 alongside Dana Andrews in Jacques Tourneur's horror film The Curse of the Demon and in the same year alongside Stanley Baker in Cy Endfield's thriller Duel at the wheel .

Peggy Cummins' film career, spanning over 25 American and British feature films, ended in 1962 with the comedy It's All About the Dog, starring Leslie Phillips . In 1965 she was seen one last time in the television series Summer Comedy Hour . She last lived in London, where she died in December 2017 with her family at the age of 92.
