Robert Barry (musician)

Robert Barry (* 1932 in Chicago , † 8. January 2018 ) was an American jazz - drummer .

Live and act

Barry attended DuSable High School and toured with Gene Ammons' band in the early 1950s . From 1954 he worked in Chicago with Sun Ra , with whom he first played in the Space Trio and accompanied various vocal groups. He then belonged to the founding members of the Sun Ra Arkestra and took part in albums such as Super Sonic Jazz (1956); In 1978 he left the Arkestra . After years of retreating from the music scene, Ken Vandermark brought him into his band in the 1990s; in the following years he also worked with Fred Anderson , Carl Leukaufe and Daniele D'Agaro .
