Robert Berdella

Robert Andrew "Bob" Berdella (born January 31, 1949 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio , † October 8, 1992 in the Missouri State Penitentiary) was an American serial killer , who was also known as The Kansas City Butcher .

Berdella was arrested when his last victim managed to escape injured on April 2, 1988. She had been tortured by him for a week and jumped from the first floor of a house. The police investigation found that Berdella had murdered at least six men between 1984 and 1988. Berdella lured his victims into his house, drugged them and tied them to the bed. Then he assaulted them, including torturing them with electric shocks. He held some of his victims prisoner for weeks until they died in agony as a result of torture. In the act, Berdella photographed his victims and recorded the torture in a diary. He threw most of the bodies in the garbage, where they disappeared undetected in landfills.

Berdella later claimed that the film The Catcher ( The Collector ) by John Fowles had inspired him to action. Berdella died of a heart attack in prison in 1992 .
