Robert Fitzwalter, 2nd Baron Fitzwalter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Fitzwalter, 2nd Baron Fitzwalter (also Sir Robert Fitzwalter ) (* around 1297, † May 6, 1328 ) was an English nobleman .

Robert Fitzwalter came from the English noble family Fitzwalter . He was a son of Robert Fitzwalter, 1st Baron Fitzwalter and his second wife Eleanor de Ferrers. At the age of 18 Robert was married to Joan de Multon (1304-1363), a daughter of Thomas de Multon, 1st Baron Multon and his wife Alianore. His bride brought the estate of Egremont in Cumberland into the marriage as a dowry . Like his father, he made a military career and took part in numerous campaigns under King Edward II . In 1317 he had entered the service of the Earl of Pembroke . After the Battle of Boroughbridge in March 1322, he and Donald de Mar captured the escaping rebel Bartholomew de Badlesmere at Stow Park .

His father died at an old age in 1326, so that Robert now inherited the family's extensive estates in Essex . However, he died two years later. Since he never took part in parliament , some historians do not consider him Baron Fitzwalter . His heir became his only son, John Fitzwalter .
