John Fitzwalter, 3rd Baron Fitzwalter (according to another count also 2nd Baron Fitzwalter ) (* around 1315, † October 18, 1361 ) was an English nobleman.

John Fitzwalter came from the noble Fitzwalter family . He was possibly the only child of Robert Fitzwalter, 2nd Baron Fitzwalter and his wife Joan Multon (1304-1363). His father died in 1328 when John was a minor. John grew up in the care of his mother until he came of age in 1336 and could take over his inheritance. Since his mother, in addition to her own rule, Egremont, as his father's widow, was entitled to a widow of a third of his property, John's inheritance was greatly reduced. Fitzwalter was a violent man who initially fought intermittently during the Hundred Years War in France. There he met the two notorious knights Lionel Bradenham and Robert Marney from Essex. Back in Essex, Fitzwalter began quarrels with his noble neighbors, which grew into feudal forays and raids. When some Colchester citizens allegedly broke into his hunting park in Lexden , Fitzwalter besieged the town with Bradenham and Marney. Angry about this offense, King Edward III let him . put on trial, confiscate Fitzwalter's property and temporarily detain him in the Tower of London . Only after a heavy fine of £ 847, which he was allowed to pay in installments, was Fitzwalter released and his property returned. Despite his offenses, Fitzwalter took part in parliaments and royal councils several times as Baron FitzWalter . In contrast, he never held a public office.

Fitzwalter had married Eleanor Percy († around 1361) before 1340, a daughter of Henry Percy, 2nd Baron Percy and Idonea de Clifford. With her he had at least two children:

His son Walter became his heir.
