Robert Garcia (politician, 1977)
Robert Garcia (born December 2, 1977 in Lima , Peru ) is an American politician of Peruvian origin. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has been Mayor of Long Beach, California since 2014 .
He immigrated to the United States with his mother when he was five. In 2007 Garcia joined the Democrats from the Republican Party . As of April 2009, he was a member of the Long Beach, California City Council . After winning the runoff election, he took over the office of Mayor of the California city on July 15, 2014, replacing Bob Foster . Garcia is openly gay. He stands up for the concerns of the poorer population, whose needs he knows from his own childhood.
