Robert Gillon

Robert Paul Raymond Gillon (* 10. December 1884 in Kortrijk , † July 25 in 1972 Kortrijk) was a Belgian writer , liberal politician and three-time president of the Belgian Senate .

Life

After attending school, he studied law at the University of Ghent and was after the promotion to Doctor of Law as a lawyer working in his native town of Kortrijk.

In 1921 he began his political career as a liberal with his election as a member of the Provincial Council of West Flanders, of which he was a member until 1932.

He was then co-opted in 1932 as a member of the Senate , of which he was a member for 39 years until 1971. During this time he was President of the Senate three times, initially from April 26, 1939 to November 8, 1947. For his services during the Second World War , he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State on September 3, 1945 along with several other politicians .

Between November 8, 1949 and April 30, 1950 and from May 5, 1954 to April 29, 1958, he was again President of the Senate.

Publications

Gillon was also considered a great connoisseur of Spain and, among other things, traveled to Spain after the beginning of the Spanish Civil War . His major publications include:
