Robert Gruthuysen

The blessed Robert Gruthuysen also Robert von Bruges (* before 1131 in Bruges , Flanders , † April 29, 1157 in Clairvaux Monastery, France ) was the second abbot of the Clairvaux Cistercian Monastery .

He came from the noble Flemish family Gruthuysen. He was one of thirty students whom Bernhard von Clairvaux brought from Flanders to Clairvaux in 1131. Eight years later he became abbot of Ten Duinen Monastery ( Koksijde , Belgium ). In 1153 he succeeded Bernhard von Clairvaux as Abbot of Clairvaux. Robert Gruthuysen died in 1157.

His feast day is April 29th .
