Robert Hale (singer)

Robert Hale (born August 22, 1933 in Kerrville , Texas ) is an American opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Hale graduated from Bethany-Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) in 1955. The tenor Léopold Simoneau was one of his singing teachers .

Hale made his debut in Denver in 1965 and then sang at the New York City Opera before coming to Europe, where he first performed at the opera houses in Frankfurt a. M., Zurich and Wiesbaden was involved. He gave up his initial roles in the bel canto repertoire in favor of roles in operas by Richard Wagner after he played the title role in The Flying Dutchman with great success in Wiesbaden in 1978 . He made an international career in this subject. He is considered one of the leading interpreters of the role of Wotan in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen of his time. In this role he appeared at the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Vienna State Opera , in Paris, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Tokyo, Sydney, San Francisco, Washington and at the Metropolitan Opera New York. Robert Hale was married to the Danish soprano Inga Nielsen until 2005 . He has been married to the American soprano Julie Davies since 2012, with whom he has been working since 2009.
