Athletic career

On March 27, 1955, Robert Heyer played his first game in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . In the 22nd game of SC Chemie Halle-Leuna he was used as a left defender. It was his only league use in the 1954/55 season. The SC Chemie rose at the end of the season in the GDR league and first had to complete a 13-game transition round in autumn 1995, with which GDR football was transferred to the calendar game year. Heyer was used twelve times in the transition round. In the 1956 GDR league season, Heyer became a regular player, missing only once in the 26 point games played. He was an important guarantor for the immediate resurgence of the sports club. This ended the season by winning the GDR soccer cup. In the final, which was won 2-1 against ZASK Vorwärts Berlin , Heyer played as the left defender. Also in 1956, Heyer was appointed to the squad of the GDR youth national team, with which he played two international matches.

Heyer was able to defend his regular player status in the following two league seasons in 1957 and 1958, he could only not be used in five point games. In 1958 he played another international match with the GDR youth team, while Halle was relegated again. Heyer belonged again to the regular Halle team, which ensured the immediate return to the league. During this season, the SC Chemie Halle-Leuna merged with the SC Wissenschaft Halle to form SC Chemie Halle. In the league seasons 1960 and 1961/62 (return to the summer-spring game rhythm), the number of failures at Heyer increased, in 1960 he was missing five times, of the 39 league games in 1961/62 he played only 25 games. In 1962 he also missed the Halle team's second cup victory (3-1 against Dynamo Berlin ).

In the following seasons, the downward trend at Heyer continued. In 1962/63 he only played ten times in the league, but could at least play the first leg of the two games in the 1962/63 European Cup Winners' Cup against OFK Belgrade (0: 2, 3: 3). Also in 1963/64 he completed only 18 of the 26 league games, where he was able to play through the second half of the season. In the 1964/65 season, when SC Chemie was again relegated, Heyer helped the club to regain immediate promotion with 27 appearances in 30 GDR league games. In 1965/66 Heyer was transferred to the 2nd team of SC Chemie, which played in the fourth-class district class Halle. In addition, he was used in the league in six games, 1966/67 Heyer played one last game in the league. In 1966 the football section of SC Chemie became Hallesche FC Chemie. In 1968 Heyer rose with the HFC in the Halle district league, and in 1969 in the GDR league. Then he ended his career as a competitive athlete.
