Robert Lindsay Hughes (born August 19, 1948 in Sydney , Australia ) is an Australian actor .

Life

Robert Hughes first worked for a newspaper in Sydney before moving into show business. He initially performed with a band called Flying Circus , but quickly switched to theater and became an actor. He played on various stages in Sydney, for example in productions such as: Errol Flynn's Great Big Adventure Book for Boys or Macbeth . He then had numerous guest roles in various Australian television series. He became known for the role of reporter Ashley Wallace in ABBA - The Movie . In 1986 he got the lead role in the sitcom Hey Dad! which he held until 1993.

After hey dad! Robert Hughes had repeatedly guest appearances in various series. He also remained loyal to the theater.

Hughes has rarely been seen in front of the camera since around 2000. Until his imprisonment in 2012, he worked as a spokesman for documentaries, among other things.

2010 charge and 2014 conviction

In March 2010, Sarah Monahan gave an interview for an Australian women's magazine. In that interview, she implied that a key person on the Hey Dad! having been sexually abused. At first, however, she did not state who it was. The Australian television station Channel 7 announced on March 23, 2010 that it was Robert Hughes. This denies the allegations. Sarah Monahan was not the only one who made the accusation against Robert Hughes. Simone Buchanan and Ben Oxenbould made identical allegations, in which his name was mentioned. Other former stars of the series have confirmed that there were rumors of Robert Hughes's actions as early as the 1980s. Oxenbould testified in an interview that he observed inappropriate acts on Sarah Monahan. On May 16, 2014, Hughes was sentenced to 10 years and 9 months in prison.
