Robert Langer (basketball coach)

Robert Langer (born May 31,  1973 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian basketball coach .

career

Langer first played for BK Klosterneuburg  in youth, then for the men's team in the Bundesliga . In 1996 he ended his playing career as a result of a cruciate ligament tear.

He was an assistant coach at BK Klosterneuburg until 2003, before he took up the coaching position at Vienna's second division club DC Timberwolves in 2003 to lead a young team made up of local players. In the 2009/10 season, Langer, who also looked after the Austrian U18 national team in 2008 and 2009, led the Viennese to win the championship in the 2nd Bundesliga.

After winning the championship, Langer moved in the run-up to the 2010/11 game year to the coaching post of Bundesliga club Güssing Knights and remained in office for two years. In addition to his tasks as a trainer, Langer worked for the Austrian Basketball Association (ÖBV) as a youth coordinator from 2001 and as a sports coordinator from January 2005.

In 2013 he finished his job for the ÖBV, Langer took over the coaching position at Bundesliga club BK Klosterneuburg in his hometown . He won the Supercup with the team in autumn 2013. In December 2014, he resigned as coach from Klosterneuburg because the team's development had not turned out as hoped. Langer then took a break from basketball before joining second division basket Flames as an assistant coach in the summer of 2016 . For the 2017/18 season he returned to the DC Timberwolves and became assistant coach of his former assistant Hubert Schmidt . In this position he helped to win the second division title in 2018, which was followed by the rise of the Viennese into the Bundesliga. Even after going to the top division, Langer remained assistant coach of the "wolves".
