Robert Lips (born August 21, 1912 ; † February 28, 1975 in Zurich ) was the inventor and draftsman of the well-known Swiss comic figure Globi .

life and work

Lips was primarily a comic artist, but also a painter. In 1931, as an architecture student, he won a poster competition for the Globus department store chain . The figure of the festive uncle Globi , developed by J. K. Schiele and Lips for the company's 25th anniversary , appeared for the first time and enjoyed great popularity, so that the format was continued in Globus Magazin in 1934 and later in the well-known Globi picture stories .

In 1966 Lips stopped working as a draftsman. Until the early 1970s, unpublished material was used by him in order to be able to continue to publish a Globi book every year. In 1975 Robert Lips died at the age of 63 and was buried in the Enzenbühl cemetery (FG 81043) in Zurich.

Memorial exhibition

On the occasion of the twentieth year of his death, a commemorative exhibition was held in the Hotel des Balances ( Lucerne ) in September 1995 . The focus of this exhibition was on the painterly work that had previously been hidden from the public or believed to have been lost. a. a self-portrait that he made at the age of sixteen.
