Robert Lisovsky

Robert Antonowytsch Lissowskyj ( Ukrainian Роберт Антонович Лісовський , born December 29, 1893 in Zaporizhia ; † December 28, 1982 in Geneva ) was a Swiss graphic artist, painter, designer and set designer of Ukrainian descent.

From 1906 to 1908 he attended the Myrhorod arts and crafts school. He studied in Kiev at the art school of Oleksandr Muraschko and from 1917 to 1920 at the Kiev Art Academy with Heorhij Narbut , then until 1927 at the Berlin Academy of Arts . He left the Ukraine in 1920, worked as a graphic artist in Lviv , and taught at the Ukrainian art studio in Prague from 1929 to 1945 .

After the Second World War , he came to London in 1948 and Geneva in 1976.

He dealt mainly with book graphics and design, also painted pictures in oil and watercolor. Among other things, he won the competition for the Lufthansa logo and designed the logo of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists OUN. Lisovsky also designed the tomb of the Ukrainian freedom fighter Olha Basarab in the Lviv Janowski cemetery in 1924 .

Lisovsky participated in the art exhibitions in Kiev, Lviv, Warsaw , Berlin , Prague and Rome . He married Stefanija Turkewytsch-Lukijanowytsch and became the father of the painter Soja Lissowska.
