Robert Loren Fleming

Robert Loren Fleming (* 1956 ) is an American comic book author .

Life and work

Fleming has been a full-time comic book author since the 1980s. Since then, he has worked for the major US comic book publishers DC Comics , Marvel Comics , Dark Horse and Image, among others.

For DC, Fleming created the spy series Thriller in 1983 , the first seven editions of which - illustrated by the illustrator Trevor von Eden - he wrote himself before leaving the series due to creative differences with his editor. This was followed by a long-term collaboration with the author and illustrator Keith Giffen whose story ideas for the comics about the parodic superhero Ambush Bug Fleming were written into scripts (Ambush Bug # 1-4, Son of Ambush Bug # 1-6, Ambush Bug Stock Stuffer # 1, Ambush Bug Nothing Special # 1). In 1986 he participated alongside numerous other authors in the comic strip Heroes Against Hunger produced at the request of UNICEF , and in 1988 he wrote the Daily Planet special . In addition, in the 1980s Fleming often took on jobs as a guest writer for DC series such as Action Comics (# 560, 563 565, 577, 580), Amethyst (# 13,14), Atari Force (# 20), Detective Comics (# 544 ), DC Comics Presents (# 182), Green Lantern (# 182), House of Mystery (# 316), Secret Origins (# 27, 35, 47, 48, Annual # 2), Superman (# 401) and World's Finest Comics (# 309).

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Fleming worked for DC as a regular writer on the series Aquaman (1989; # 1-5, Legend of Aquaman Special # 1), Valor (1992-1993; # 1-8, 10) and Eclipso (1992-1994; # 1-18, Annual # 1) and also wrote the two-part miniseries Eclipso: The Darkness Within in 1992 as well as a number of annuals for other series such as Adventures of Superman # 4 and Superman Man of Steel # 2, in which the multi-series Eclipso story was deepened. As a partner of Giffen, he scripted the mini-series Ragman and single-handedly wrote the framework story for the anthology Lobo's Greatest Hits (1991), which was recycled by other authors, and the booklet Legends of the Dark Knight # 51.

For the publisher Dark Horse he wrote the four-part miniseries The Mask: World Tour (1995) about the antihero The Mask and the booklet Dark Horse Presents # 106. For Image, Fleming worked on the titles Lethal (1996), Knightmare , Prophet / Chapel: Super Soldiers , Gen13 Bootleg and Team Youngblood as well as the Extreme Destroyer Epiogue

Together with Jan Harold Brunvand , he also published the graphic novel The Big Book of Urban Legends .
