Robert M. Whiting
Robert McCray Whiting Jr. (born September 21, 1939 in San Diego ) is an American ancient orientalist and collaborator in the SAA project at the University of Helsinki .
He studied technical physics from 1957 to 1961 at the United States Naval Academy and received his doctorate in Assyriology from 1966 to 1975 at the University of Chicago , where he also worked as a research assistant from 1968 to 1979. Then he moved to the University of Aleppo for two years , where he taught Ugaritology and Assyriology. After further employment at the Oriental Institute of Chicago and a substitute professorship at the University of Michigan , he took up his professorship at the University of Helsinki in 1994.
