Robert McCoig

Robert S. McCoig (* 1937 ; † September 1998 in Colchester ) was a Scottish badminton player who won numerous international tournaments in the 1960s and 1970s. He is the record holder at the Scottish Championships with 15 singles, but was otherwise more successful in doubles and mixed . Between 1957 and 1976 he led his country's national team to the Thomas Cup seven times in a row . At the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston , Jamaica in 1966 , he won the bronze medal in mixed alongside Muriel Woodcock (née Ferguson). Also with Woodcock he played in the mixed final of the renowned All England in 1968 , but failed there because of an English duo. In the same year he won the bronze medal in doubles with Mac Henderson at the first European badminton championship in 1968 .
