Pasi Häkkinen (born June 25, 1977 in Lappeenranta ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who was active in Germany with the Dresdner Eislöwen , Starbulls Rosenheim and ESV Kaufbeuren in the DEL2 . Before that he played for many years in the highest Finnish league, the SM-liiga , for Ilves , Jokerit and SaiPa .

Career

Häkkinen began his career in his hometown with the Saimaan Pallo juniors . During the 1996/97 season he made his debut for the club's men's team in the Finnish SM-liiga . In the following season he acted as a back-up for Jussi Markkanen and got a total of three stakes. In the following three years he remained second goalkeeper behind Markkananen or Niklas Bäckström , before he decided in 2001 to move to the Nottingham Panthers in the Ice Hockey Superleague . He was also a substitute goalkeeper behind Danny Lorenz for the Panthers and returned to Finland in 2002.

In the 2002/03 season he played for Hokki Kajaani in Finland's second division, the Mestis , as a goalkeeper and showed very good performances. Therefore, he was obliged by Jokerit Helsinki from the SM-liiga in the summer of 2003 and prevailed over the course of the season in the fight for the goalkeeping post against Markus Helanen and Kevin Hodson . In the play-offs he reached the quarter-finals with Jokerit and was statistically the fifth best goalkeeper of the play-offs. After the season, the management of Jokerit signed a new goalkeeper, Tim Thomas , so that Häkkinen remained in the role of back-up. Therefore, he completed a few games for Salamat in the Mestis at the same time . In the play-offs he sat on the Jokerit bench in all games and won the Finnish runner-up with his team as a substitute goalkeeper behind Kärpät Oulu .

After this success, Häkkinen decided again to move abroad and signed a contract with the Herning Blue Fox from the Oddset Ligaen . With the Blue Fox he reached third place in the Danish championship and got a contract offer from Rauman Lukko after the end of the season , which he accepted. After three missions, he left Lukko in October 2006 and was signed by Ilves , as Ilves had only one goalkeeper with Tuukka Rask due to an injury to Riku Helenius . Häkkinen was under contract with Ilves until 2008 and played 38 games in the SM-liiga. He showed relatively good statistics , especially in the 2007/08 season , but was not used in the play-offs, but was substitute goalkeeper behind Tero Leinonen .

In summer 2008, Häkkinen left Finland again and found a new employer in HC Bozen from the A1 series . In Italy he was one of the best goalkeepers in the league for the next two years and showed very good performances, especially in the playoffs of both seasons, so that he was Italian champion with Bolzano in 2009 . In August 2010 he received a trial contract with the Dresdner Eislöwen from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga , which was extended at the beginning of September until the end of the season. In June 2011, Häkkinen left the club despite the Eislöwen's contract offer and moved to HK Homel in the Belarusian extra league . A year later he moved to Starbulls Rosenheim in July 2012 to take on the position of Norm Maracle and played for the Starbulls until 2014. In September 2014 he left the club and moved to EV Landshut , where he replaced Tyler Weiman , who was unable to play due to a metacarpal fracture. After 13 league games in the Niederbayern goal, he moved to Denmark to Sønderjysk Elitesport in November 2014 , where his contract was not renewed after 13 championship games and his departure was announced on January 12, 2015. On January 20, the German second division club ESV Kaufbeuren announced the commitment of the 37-year-old goalkeeper, where he replaced the injured Stefan Vajs .

After the 2014/15 season he ended his career and became a goalkeeper coach at Hokki Kajaani.
