Tero Leinonen (born March 9, 1975 in Mikkeli ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who has been working as a coach since retiring.
Career
Tero Leinonen began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of Diskos Jyväskylä , where he was active until 1995. The goalkeeper then spent a season in his hometown with third-rate Mikkelin Jukurit . With Diskos Jyväskylä, for which he played again from 1996 to 1998, he rose in the 1996/97 season to the then still second class I divisioona, in which he made his debut in professional ice hockey. In the second Finnish division he remained in the following three years, in which he was under contract with Haukat , Vaasan Sport and again Mikkelin Jukurit, where he won the championship of the newly formed second division, the Mestis, with Jukurit in the 2000/01 season , won.
From 2001 to 2004 Leinonen was regularly between the posts at JYP Jyväskylä in the SM-liiga . There he was able to recommend himself for an engagement in the Swedish Elitserien , in which he competed for Mora IK and Luleå HF from 2004 to 2007 . He then returned to his Finnish homeland for a year and a half, where he played for Ilves Tampere in the SM-liiga. During the 2008/09 season , the Finn was committed by the Bílí Tygři Liberec from the Czech Extraliga . There he earned a regular place in his second season in the Czech Republic.
In the 2010/11 season Leinonen was active for the Swedish second division club Tingsryds AIF . After the end of the season, the goalkeeper was hired by third division Nokian Pyry in his home country . He left this after two games to play for HC Valpellice in Serie A1 . In the course of the 2011/12 season , on January 28, 2012, the Iserlohn Roosters took him in the role of standby goalkeeper under contract, as Sébastien Caron was unable to play due to a concussion. On its DEL debut, the team lost 4-5 in extra time against Adler Mannheim . Leinonen also stood between the posts for the Roosters in the 8-0 defeat against Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg . After his contract expired in spring 2012, Leinonen was without a club and ended his career. He later worked as an ice hockey coach.
