Robert McCormick (born July 22, 1800 in Runham in Norfolk , † October 25, 1890 ) was a British polar explorer.

Life

Robert McCormick joined the Royal Navy as a ship's doctor in 1823 , accompanied William Edward Parry as a naturalist on the HMS Hecla in 1827 , served as the Beagle's ship's doctor in 1832 during the first part of the research voyage made famous by Charles Darwin, and then made several trips to the Arctic and Antarctic Waters and took part in 1852 as commander of the Forlorn Hope in the expedition to find John Franklin . In 1865 he retired.
