Robert Meldau

Robert Meldau (born February 14, 1891 in Cologne , † February 14, 1978 in Gütersloh ) was a German engineer.

Life

Robert Meldau was the son of a factory owner. Before devoting himself to technical studies, he studied art history at the Sorbonne and completed a commercial internship in Manchester. As a war volunteer with the Cologne Pioneer Battalion, he interrupted his studies during the First World War and did not finish his studies until 1919 as a qualified engineer at the TH Hannover . He also received his doctorate from the TH Hannover in 1921. In 1922 he married Gerritje , daughter of the physicist Julius Precht . With the support of his wife, he founded a laboratory for dust technology in Berlin in 1926. A little later, he opened his own law firm as a patent attorney . Meldau's main work Der Industriestaub , which was also translated into Russian in 1931 and was called Handbuch der Staubtechnik in later editions , he also published in 1926. He was a member of the founding committee that set up the technical committee for dust technology in the Association of German Engineers (VDI) on February 13, 1928 Life called. In addition to the recovery of raw materials, Meldau's focus was on social hygiene . At the instigation of the VDI, Meldau made a longer trip through Russia. He published his travel experiences under the pseudonym Gaston Robert. In 1942, Meldau relocated the office and laboratory to Spremberg in Lausitz . From there he fled to the West in 1945 and settled in Harsewinkel . In the same year he was again appointed as an expert. In 1947 he re-founded the technical committee for dust technology in the VDI. He was chairman from 1948 to 1956. Meldau was a lecturer at the University of Münster until 1950 , then until his retirement in 1966 honorary professor at the TH Hanover , where he gave lectures on the history of industrial property rights and on the technology of industrial dust.
