Robert Nikolajewitsch Mschwidobadze

Robert Nikolajewitsch Mschwidobadze ( Russian Роберт Николаевич Мшвидобадзе ; * August 17, 1989 ) is a Russian judoka . He was second in the extra lightweight division at the 2018 World Championships.

Career

Robert Mschwidobadze started as a teenager for Georgia, in 2004 he was second in the European Cadet Championships in the weight class up to 50 kilograms, in 2005 he was third in the class up to 55 kilograms. Since 2008 he has been fighting as a Russian in the weight class up to 60 kilograms. In 2009, 2010 and 2011 he was runner-up at the U23 European Championships. In 2011 he also won a bronze medal at the Universiade in Shenzhen . In 2012 he won the Police World Championships.

After Mschwidobadze was eliminated in the first round of the European Championships in 2012 , he did not take part in international championships again until 2017. At the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw, he defeated the Azerbaijani Orxan Səfərov in the quarter-finals and the Georgian Luchum Tschchwimiani in the semifinals , and in the final he won the gold medal by defeating the Bulgarian Janislav Gertschew . At the World Championships in Budapest he was eliminated by a first round defeat against the Brazilian Phelipe Pelim . Two months after the World Championships, he won the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi . At the 2018 World Championships in Baku , Mschwidobadze defeated South Korean Lee Ha-rim in the quarter-finals and Georgian Amiran Papinashvili in the semi-finals , and in the final he was defeated by Japanese Naohisa Takato . At the end of 2018 he won the Masters tournament in Guangzhou. In 2019 Robert Mschwidobadze retired from the World Championships in Tokyo in the first round against the Taiwanese Yang Yung-Wei .
