Robert Pring-Mill
Robert Pring-Mill (born September 11, 1924 in Stapleford Tawney , Epping Forest (District) , † October 7, 2005 in Oxford ) was a British Romanist , Hispanist and Catalanist of Scottish descent.
life and work
Robert Duguid Forrest Pring-Mill lived with his family in Mallorca from the age of seven . From 1941 he did military service in Burma . He studied from 1948 and from 1952 taught at Oxford, from 1965 until his retirement in 1988 as a fellow at St Catherine's College and professor of Spanish and Latin American literature.
Latin America has been of particular interest to Pring-Mill since his first trip in 1949. He was friends with Pablo Neruda and Ernesto Cardenal . He helped Neruda to an honorary doctorate in Oxford in 1965 (which paved the way for the 1971 Nobel Prize).
Pring-Mill had been a member of the British Academy since 1988 . He was an officer in the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins (1992).
