Robert Rentoul Reed

Robert Rentoul Reed (born March 12, 1807 in Washington , Pennsylvania , †  December 14, 1864 there ) was an American politician . Between 1849 and 1851 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Reed first attended preparatory schools. In 1824 he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in his native Washington. After completing a medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and becoming a doctor, he began working in this profession in his hometown. Politically, he joined the Whig Party .

In the 1848 congressional election , Reed was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 20th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Dickey on March 4, 1849 . Until March 3, 1851 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This time was dominated by the discussions about the question of slavery . Among other things, the compromise of 1850 introduced by US Senator Henry Clay was passed.

Robert Reed was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1863 and 1864 . He died on December 14, 1864 near Washington, Pennsylvania, where he was buried.
