Life

After attending school in Ilsenburg, he went to the Count's grammar school in Wernigerode , after which he helped in his father's butcher's shop, which was later converted into an inn where, among other things, landscape painters stayed as holiday guests. Robert Riefenstahl quickly discovered his own artistic talent. With the support of the painter Georg Jabin from Düsseldorf, he learned the basic techniques of painting and drawing. To perfect his knowledge, he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy , from which he returned disappointed and continued his self-taught education. In his sketches, drawings and oil paintings he captured the streets, houses and ironworks of Ilsenburg with great precision.

In today's Punierstraße 25, he had a house built for himself, which soon became a meeting place for artists.

Works

Riefenstahl's work is characterized by a romantic approach with great attention to detail. In 2004, numerous of his works were exhibited at Wernigerode Castle .
