Robert Sturdy

Robert Sturdy (* 22. June 1944 in Wetherby , West Yorkshire ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

Sturdy attended Ashville College in Harrogate , where he learned bookkeeping. He then ran the family's estate. He is a hobby beekeeper and Vice President of the Cambridgeshire Beekeepers Association . His son Julian Sturdy also became a politician and took over his father's farm.

Sturdy has been a Conservative Member of the European Parliament since 1994 , 1994–1999 for Cambridge and Bedfordshire North , then for the Eastern Region in Yorkshire. He is on the Committee on Foot and Mouth Disease . He is also a member of the Royal Society for Birds Conservation and Treasurer of the Land Use and Food Policy Intergroup .
