Robert Turcan

Robert Turcan (born June 22, 1929 in Paris , † January 16, 2018 in Craponne ) was a French archaeologist .

Turcan studied from 1952 at the École normal supérieure up to the Agrégation 1955. From 1955 to 1957 he was a member of the École française de Rome and taught from 1957 to 1987 at the University of Lyon - initially Latin studies , from 1974 as professor of provincial Roman archeology . From 1987 until his retirement in 1994 he was Professor of Roman and Provincial Roman Archeology at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne .

From 1990, Turcan was a full member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .
