Ferdinand Robert Wirth (born June 3, 1866 in Cunnersdorf ; † September 1, 1960 in Dresden ) was a German politician ( SPD , ASPD , SED ) and from 1909 to 1929 a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life

After attending primary school, Wirth learned the trade of machine shaper. He later worked as a train conductor. From 1905 to 1909 Wirth was an employee of the transport workers' association and then until 1917 the warehouse keeper of the “Vorwärts” consumer association in Dresden. From September 1917 to 1931 he was the district manager of the railway workers' association in Dresden.

From 1909 to 1918 Wirth was a member of the Saxon Landtag in the Kingdom of Saxony for the SPD . In 1918 he became chairman of the SPD constituency organization Saxony 6 (Dresden). From 1919 to 1920 Wirth was a member of the Saxon People's Chamber and from 1920 to 1929 of the Saxon State Parliament . From 1919 to April 15, 1926 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Wirth was also a city councilor in Dresden from 1919 to 1932 and its head from 1922 to 1924.

In connection with the Saxony dispute over the course of the state party, Wirth and the majority of the SPD state parliamentary group came into conflict with the SPD state association, which finally led to the faction split on April 15, 1926. The majority of the parliamentary group then founded the Old Social Democratic Party of Saxony (later Old Social Democratic Party of Germany ), with the significant participation of Wirth and the Saxon Prime Minister Max Heldt , for which he was again a member of the Saxon state parliament from 1926 to 1929 and again served as parliamentary group chairman. During this electoral period he also served as deputy secretary of the state parliament. During his involvement in the ASPD, Wirth was a partner in the Volksstaat printing and publishing house Wirth & Co. in Dresden, which, as a party organ, published the daily newspaper Der Volksstaat . After the dissolution of the ASPD, he rejoined the SPD in 1932.

After the Second World War, Wirth was one of the re-founders of the SPD in Dresden. Although he was a critic of the compulsory unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED , he joined the new party and worked for them until 1947 as the senior president of the Dresden city council.
