Roberto Cruz (* 21st November 1941 in Baguio City , Philippines ) is a former Filipino boxer and world champion of the WBA in the welterweight . He was managed by Felipe de la Cruz .

Career

Cruz lost his professional debut in February 1955 in a 4-round bout against Laureano Llarenas, who also debuted in that bout, by unanimous decision.

On March 21, 1963, he boxed against the Mexican Battling Torres for the vacant World Championship title of the association WBA. This battle, which was scheduled to last 15 rounds, was won by Cruz in the first round with a classic knockout.

Already in his first title defense, which took place only 3 months later, Cruz lost the belt to the American Eddie Perkins by unanimous decision on points. This fight was also about the world championship belt of the WBC .

Cruz completed his last two fights in 1968. He lost both of them to classic knockouts.
