history
In 1666 the plague raged in the Baden region, but the population of Mingolsheim was spared. After healing recovering from Pestgefahr the left in 1667 Kislauer Fauth Johann Hetzrodt the first chapel in conjunction with Mingolsheimer citizens Frondienst build. It was named after Saint Roch , who is both the patron saint of plague sufferers and the local patron of the community of Mingolsheim . Soon afterwards, on Rochustag, an ever larger pilgrimage from the surrounding communities began. Through the discharge certificate of Pope Benedict XIV. Of 2 April 1742 Rochus pilgrimages experienced another revival.
After this church became too small and threatened to collapse, a larger one was built on the same site in 1750/1751. At the beginning of the 19th century, the chapel had to be demolished against the resistance of the Mingolsheim citizens on the orders of the Grand Ducal government. It is only thanks to the initiative and foundations of the citizens of Mingolsheim that the current Rochus Chapel, designed in the neo-Gothic style , was rebuilt mainly by local craft businesses. Auxiliary Bishop Justus Knecht was able to inaugurate the chapel in 1895.
In 1988 a completely preserved organ made by the Bohemian-Moravian organ builder Matthias Strmiska from 1910 was acquired by Herrnbaumgarten - ( Lower Austria ). The organ, which is now under monument protection , was restored by the organ building company Späth in March-Hugstetten . Today it forms the center of the chapel with its 11 registers.
On the Sunday after the Assumption of Mary , a festive service is held annually on the open space of the Rochus Chapel. The following procession leads to the parish church of St. Lambertus . The parish festival (Rochusfest) is then celebrated at the Edith-Stein-Haus.
