Dam between the Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir and the Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir |
The Roddlesworth Reservoirs are two reservoirs west of Darwen in Lancashire , England . The Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir is located south of the Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir , which is only separated from it by a 300 m long accessible dam at its northern end. The River Roddlesworth flows into the southern end of the Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir and leaves the Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir on its north side.
The Lower Roddlesworth Reservoir was built by Thomas Hawksley between 1850 and 1857 by Thomas Hawksley, which belonged to the city of Liverpool , together with the Rake Brook Reservoir , which connects to the west at its northern end, as part of a network of reservoirs . The reservoirs of the Anglezarke Reservoir and Upper Rivington Reservoir and Lower Rivington Reservoir also belong to the network . The reservoirs are connected by a canal called The Goit . Between 1867 and 1875, the Upper Roddlesworth Reservoir was built by Thomas Duncan and Joseph Jackson.
