The River Darwen is a watercourse in Lancashire , England . It arises in the south of Darwen and flows in a northerly direction partially underground through the place and then through Blackburn , where it crosses the Leeds and Liverpool Canal . At Blackburn he turns west. After having passed under the M61 motorway , it flows into the River Ribble in the south of Preston .
