Rodrigo Bernal (born June 6, 1959 in Medellín ) is a Colombian botanist , he was best known for his work on neotropical palms . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " R.Bernal ".

Life

Bernal was born on June 6, 1959 in Medellín, where he studied agricultural science at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He completed his studies in 1983. From 1984 he researched and taught at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá. then he did his doctorate at the University of Aarhus in Denmark and became an assistant professor in Bogotá.

He mainly works on the palm trees (Arecaceae). So far he has been able to publish over 20 original articles and - also together with Gloria Galeano - first describe several new species .
