Rodrigo Cortés Giráldez (born May 31, 1973 in Pazos Hermos , Ourense Province , Galicia , Spain ) is a Spanish film director , film producer , screenwriter , film editor and occasionally actor .

Career

Cortés' passion for film began very early on. At 16 he had already made his first short film on Super 8 Film . In 1998 he directed the short film Yul , which won over 20 awards. In 2001 he published 15 Days , a fake report in the form of a longer short film, which won over 57 prizes and is therefore the Spanish film with the most prizes.

In 2007 he directed The Contestant ( Concursante in Spanish), which was his first full-length feature film. This was highly praised by the critics and won numerous prizes, including the Critics' Prize at the Málaga Film Festival. In 2010 he worked as the director and editor of the film Buried . The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received considerable acclaim. In 2011 Cortés directed the psychological thriller Red Lights , which starred Robert De Niro , Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy, among others . The film premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. In 2012 his psychological thriller Emergo ( Apartment 143 ) started.
