From there he moved to River Plate Montevideo within Montevideo and was a member of the U-23 squad there in 2010/11. In the following season Guarteche was under contract with Club Atlético Progreso and made his debut in the first team in 2011. His club rose at the end of the 2011/12 season from the Segunda División to the top Uruguayan league. There he completed in the following Apertura and Clausura 24 games in the Primera División and scored five goals. At the end of the season, however, his employer was relegated. For the 2013/14 season he joined the first division club Danubio . For the Montevideans he came to another first division assignment until the end of the Apertura 2013. With a total of only five minutes playing time, he was the player with the lowest playing time in the course of the Apertura, which the team won as first in the table of all the players used at Danubio. He then moved to his former club Progreso for six months on loan at the beginning of March 2014 and played eleven second division games (no goal) by the end of the round.
