Georg Rody
Georg Rody , full name Georg Christian Maria Rody (born February 5, 1880 in Cologne , † April 9, 1944 in Birkesdorf ), was a pastor for many years in Birkesdorf, a current district of the district town of Düren .
Rody worked in the catholic parish of St. Joachim and St. Peter, which today belongs to the GdG (community of parishes) Düren-Nord. In 1903 he was appointed rector of the Marien Hospital in Düsseldorf . He often got into trouble with the National Socialists because he did not want to bow to their dictates . He even helped atheists during the chaos of war and he supported the communist prisoner support organization Rote Hilfe with money, which shows his humane attitude . But he also helped poor Birkesdorfers financially.
Rody had a large collection of books that the city of Düren acquired in 1942. It contains incunabula and prints from the 16th to 18th centuries and is now in the Düren city and district archives.
