Roger Livesey
Roger Livesey (born June 25, 1906 in Barry , Wales , † February 4, 1976 in Watford , England ) was a British actor .
life and career
Roger Livesey came from a family of actors and was eleven years old on the stage at St James's Theater in London. He already took on smaller film roles during the silent film era in the early 20s, but initially he was mainly active in the theater. It was not until the mid-1930s that Livesey was more involved in the cinema. The character actor's trademarks were his powerful stature and his distinguished, rather hoarse sounding voice. At the height of his film career, Livesey played the lead role of British officer Clive Candy in the epic Life and Death of Colonel Blimp in 1943 , directed by the filmmaker duo Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger . Powell and Pressburger also engage him for their films I know where I'm going (1945, in the male lead) and Errtum im Jenseits (1946, as a doctor and friend of the leading actor David Niven ).
Although these films were extremely successful and Livesey got good reviews for his appearances, mostly supporting roles followed in the film. He remained active as an actor for film and television until the 1970s. He was also successful as a stage actor in London's West End. From 1937 until her death in 1973 Livesey was married to the actress Ursula Jeans . Roger Livesey died of cancer in 1976 at the age of 69.
